Welcome to my website! My name is Brian Goebel (pronounced Go-Bull, but I prefer Mr. G for simplicity's sake). I grew up in Huntington Beach (in Orange County), so the beach will always have a special place in my heart. I love the outdoors, especially skiing, wakeboarding, soccer, and hammocking. In my free time, I love watching nerdy Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings movies. Indulging in Chipotle with my church family is also on the list of my favorite things. As far as video games go, my favorites are the original Mass Effect trilogy, with an occasional round of Halo multiplayer.
After graduating from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, I went to UC Davis, earning a BS in Statistics and a minor in Mathematics. I found my stats, math, and programming classes to be interesting but very difficult, and it was during this time I learned the value of a growth mindset--we all can develop our skills through hard work, perseverance, and by making mistakes. I also got my teaching credential and Master's at UC Davis, and am currently finishing up my MA in Education.
As I look back on my life, I have had a number of exemplary role models--parents, an older brother, coaches, pastors, and...you guessed it...teachers! There are several teachers, from elementary, middle, and high school, that really stick out in my memory as having truly cared about who I was as an individual, and my learning. Especially in high school I had several phenomenal math teachers that made me seriously consider teaching. It is my hope that you will feel welcome in my class, just as I did in theirs.
