Welcome to Mr. Dykstra’s website!
I am very excited to help your student see how math can really have an impact on their collegiate and career goals. Having had a paper route, selling shoes, and spent many years in corporate banking, I strive to relate mathematics to real world situations.
Some of my favorite things to do are go backpacking, play soccer, and solve difficult math problems. All of my life I have been interested in discovering how and why things work. Therefore, during my education I took classes in anthropology, geology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and of course mathematics. In concert all of these subjects explain how & why this wonderful world works so well. Thus, I try to incorporate many concepts from my previous work experience as well as my educational endeavors into my daily lessons.
Finally, my philosophy is "the better equipped the students are to go to college, enter the workforce or develop their own company, the more likely they will succeed." The quote “Math teaches us how to think” (unknown) is very true. I want our students to be successful and kind people and think about how they can contribute to the growth and prosperity of our community's future.
