Natomas Unified School District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony October 5 for the first new campus to be constructed in the district since 2008.

The celebration launching construction of a new campus for Natomas Charter School’s STAR Academy will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 5, on the project site at Gloster Way and Prosper Road. Expected to open next fall, the campus will serve students in transitional kindergarten through 5th grade, allowing the existing STAR Academy to relocate from a commercial building on East Commerce Way.

NUSD’s Board of Trustees, District administrators, and Natomas Charter School officials are scheduled to participate in the October 5 groundbreaking. Landmark Construction is the general contractor for the STAR Academy project.

Construction of the new academy is consistent with voter-approved priorities for the Measure J school bond and with Natomas Unified’s Facilities Master Plan, adopted by the Board of Trustees in June 2014.

STAR Academy marks NUSD’s first construction of a campus since 2008, when the H. Allen Hight Learning Center was completed. The District opened a new school last year, Natomas Gateways Middle School, but it was created by setting aside and renovating an existing wing of Natomas High School.
