I am super excited to welcome you back to the 21-22 school year! I became your principal in January 2021 and for those who have not yet met me, let me introduce myself. I have been in education for over 25 years and with Natomas since 2006. I have worked at multiple sites including Leroy Greene Middle School, Jefferson Elementary, H. Allen Hight Elementary and Inderkum High School. I taught 5th and 6th grades at these sites and worked here at Hight for 5 years as a 5th grade teacher and 1 year as the assistant principal before going to Inderkum High School. I was at Inderkum for the last 3 1/2 years as an assistant principal and loved learning with Principal Motherspaw and the amazing staff! My dream has always been to return to Hight as principal, and I am truly honored to be back!
Since March of 2020 our lives have been turned upside down. Who would have ever thought that when we took a 4-day weekend to collect more data and ensure the safety of our students and staff, that soon the entire world would be shut down. Thanks to our scientists, many of us have been vaccinated and we are safely reopening.
As we enter into this new year, we will see things returning to normal! In saying this, I know that many of you have suffered challenges during this time and I want you to know that we are here to support you and your family through any trauma you may have suffered. We are returning to our pre COVID schedule, using our cafeteria to serve breakfast and lunch. We will also have 4th R on site for before and after school care. We will continue to work closely with Sac County of Public Health and abide by their guidelines so for now we will still wear masks while we are inside the building but we can now take them off at recess! We also no longer need social distance so our teachers can now return to collaborative groupings in the classroom!
I want to assure you that we are dedicated to providing all of our students with opportunities to grow and offer support that may be needed. Failure is NOT an option. Our teachers are well prepared to use small group instruction for reading and math as well as our IB framework to address needed skills for all of our students whether it is intervention or enrichment. We are here to partner with you to help you and your child achieve their goals! Let’s continue to work together and follow the Cheetah Way: BE Safe, BE Responsible and BE Respectful!
