Notes presentation

Here are the slides from Mr. Olavarri’s presentation about note taking and generative review activities. You also may wish to read the Friedman research review and reference the book by Walter Pauk about how to study, including the use of Cornell notes.

Personal Project for Sophomores

Ms. Glubka presented these slides giving an overview of the MYP Personal Project during the IB Committee meeting on November 9, 2021. Students will receive more detailed information through English class, but the slides provide an overview. For those with past experience of the PP, there have been some changes beginning in 2021-22.

Information

Service Learning

We ask Scholars to complete 20 hours of service over grades 9 and 10 (combined). Some suggestions for service, especially during our COVID restrictions, may be discussed in class and on the newsletters and emails sent by Ms. Downing. Students are welcome to explore other opportunities, too.

Further information about Service Learning and links for submitting records may be found through our MYP Service as Action site. Be sure to check the tabs at the top right of that page to find all the resources.

Making the IB Diploma vs. Certificate Decision

While there are few choices of classes during 9th and 10th grades, Scholars have much to think about when planning for 11th and 12th. The primary decision is whether they will pursue the full IB Diploma (6 IB classes plus the Core) or go the Certificate route by doing anything less than full DP. To assist in this decision, the counselors presented to the sophomores during their AP World History class and asked them to complete a Google form indicating their choices.

We held an evening presentation for parents and guardians on February 6, 2023. The presentation slides may be accessed by clicking on the image above or viewed as a PDF. Next there will be individual meetings between students and their counselors, and following that will be an opportunity for parents and guardians to request meetings with the counselors to follow up on scheduling choices.

Here’s more information which may be useful when making your decisions about your path for grades 11 & 12.
