Building a community of support and trust and a culture where students know that they can count on their coach is the ultimate goal of the newly hired Varsity Football Coach of Inderkum High School Reggie Harris. “I am looking forward to building a great authentic relationship with the players, staff, and community. I want to be an intricate part of these young people’s lives.” Harris shares it’s because of his coaches, teachers, and other pillars in the community growing up that he is who he is today. “I want to pay it forward. That’s what motivated me to be what I am today – positive individuals taking time out of their day to pour into individuals – that’s what I am about.”

While Coach Harris is not a native to Sacramento and first joined the community nearly 20 years ago, he comments how special it is and the place where he achieved many of his coaching achievements starting with his position as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Assistant Coach for Grant High School.  During his tenure, he brought the program to 10 league championships, 12 consecutive playoff appearances, 3 California Interscholastic Federation Section Titles, and 1 Open Division State Championship Bowl.

After departing Grant, he served as Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach for  St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. While there, he strategically dominated the field position battle with special teams. As a result, he won the 2019 GEICO National Championship, two 7A FHSAA State titles in 2016 and 2019, and one state runner-up in 2018.  His team won the ESPN National Bowl Series of Champions in Texas.  Last year, he served as the head coach for Antelope High School.

With 27 years of experience, he is ready to hit the ground running with a winning season for the Inderkum Tigers. “ I am blessed to have a staff in place to support. They are dedicated and unselfish, and I am excited about what we can do together for these kids. That’s what it’s all about,” said Harris. Through his success, he has learned what focus, support, and hard work will do. He has passed those key ingredients along to his student-athletes – some who utilized football to go to college and others all the way to the NFL. Harris was the high school coach of NFL All-Pro recipient Michael Vick, 2004; Mr. California and former Denver Bronco cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson; All-State recipients Devontae Booker and Reggie Walker former San Diego Charger linebacker; and three former U.S. Army All-Americans Viliami Moala, Shaq Thompson, NFL1st round selection for Carolina Panthers and James Sample, NFL 4th round selection for Jacksonville Jaguars.

Harris is committed to academic achievement and lifelong learning. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Hampton University. He completed his Masters’s in Sports Management at Old Dominion University. While at Twin Rivers Unified School District, he was awarded the Twin Rivers Unified School District’s Teacher of The Year Award. He also earned the CTE Health Science and Medical Technology Credential and Educational Leadership and Administrative Credential.

In addition to his new role as Head Football Coach, he has also been hired as a Physical Education Teacher. This will allow him to have a greater impact on students on and off the field. Harris is the proud father of 5 beautiful children.
