Excess Class Size Claiming

Per Article X of the Natomas Teachers Association Bargaining Unit Agreement, teachers may receive compensation when their class size exceeds the district goal. User friendly claim sheets have been created for each type of teaching assignment. Each claim sheet is preset with the class size numbers and dollar amounts as outlined in the NTA Agreement.

To claim excess class size, teachers must follow the procedures outlined below.

  1. Obtain an Attendance Register Report from the site Secretary for each class during the applicable claim period.
  2. Go to Class Size Overage Forms page.
  3. Click on the instructional setting that relates to your assignment.
  4. Click on the applicable month for which you are claiming overages.
  5. Complete your name (last name first) and Employee ID Number (displayed on your paycheck).
  6. For Primary Education, enter the total number of students enrolled for each day of the claim period (Indicated in the Classroom Monitor Attendance Verification section of the Attendance Register Report).
  7. For Secondary Education, enter your Period numbers on the FIRST day of the claim period. The rest of the days will automatically populate. Enter the total number of students enrolled for each day of the claim period (Indicated in the Classroom Monitor Attendance Verification section of the Attendance Register Report).
  8. Print, sign, and submit your class size overage claim sheet, along with copies of the Attendance Register Report, to your site administrator/supervisor for approval by the due date.
  9. Site secretaries will assign the site account code and forward to Payroll for processing by the established deadlines.

Excess Class Size Claim Sheets must be submitted by the due dates to ensure timely processing of payments. CalSTRS requires that all earnings be recorded in the month that it is worked, and reported to CalSTRS within 30 days.
