For staff who are also parents of an NUSD student, it is critical that the NUSD staff email address be listed as Primary with any personal email address listed as Secondary.
The reason for this is that the Primary email address is what feeds to the IC Portal for students and parents to be able to contact teachers directly. We do not want the personal email addresses of staff to be visible here.
For staff who are parents to receive email messages from their children’s school(s), they just need to have the appropriate Messenger preferences checked on either their personal email address (in the Secondary spot) or on their NUSD address (if they want messages there as well) or both. Messenger does not differentiate between Primary and Secondary email addresses–it will send messages to the Primary or Secondary or both email addresses based on those Messenger preferences.
Below is an example of how email addresses should be listed for a staff member who is also a parent and who wants to get messages about their child only to their personal email address.
