Hi! My name is Sam Carey. I was born in the Bay Area, but I have lived locally in Sacramento for the last 7 years. I attended the University of California, Davis and graduated with a double major in Comparative Literature and Economics.  During college I discovered my love of teaching while volunteering in various after school reading groups in the area.  I then completed my Single Subject Secondary Teaching Credential in English at the University of California, Davis. In 2016 I completed my graduate education and teacher research at UC Davis in the Masters of Arts in Education program. I began my career teaching in Elk Grove Unified and this will be my seventh year in the profession.

Beyond teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and playing board games.  I am also an avid movie goer and am totally obsessed with anything Star Wars or Marvel.  I have a crazy sweet tooth--I especially like all things dessert related and all things tea related.  I also like to relax by playing video games on my PS4 or (my wife's) Nintendo Switch.  During the summers Mrs. Carey and I love to go to Disneyland!
