As you may be aware, the Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) Board of Trustees recently approved investing $1 million for Day Camps run by our community partner, Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center (The Center). These camps are located at all NUSD elementary sites and K-8 sites for families with students in grades K-5 who need support with their students participating in Distance Learning.

We are pleased to share that during the September 8th City Council meeting, the Council approved $500,000 in CARES Act funding to fully offset any costs to families to attend the Center’s Day Camps in Natomas Unified. This funding will support and reduce the District’s investments to run the Day Camps while allowing families to get the support that they need and to have adult supervision for their children during this critical time.

Although the program has been up and running since the first day of school, there are still some limited spaces available. The capacity is 40 students per site at a 10:1 ratio for students and adult supervision while being compliant with state and local guidance for how to safely run Day Camps.  As a reminder, the Center’s Day Camps are being offered at – American Lakes, Bannon Creek, H.Allen Hight, Heron, Jefferson, Natomas Park, Paso Verde, Two Rivers, and Witter Ranch.

The program is geared towards:

  • Students trying to overcome the obstacles presented due to the pandemic and distance learning and suffered learning loss
  • Families of essential workers, foster youth, homeless, English Learners, and working families
  • Families who cannot afford or provide childcare and/or academic support at home

If you are interested in your student attending The Center’s Day Camp, please complete the attached application link. The link can also be found on The Center’s webpage (https://sccsc.org/) under programs. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact The Center Program Director Mr. Bean at 916-690-5880.

We are very appreciative of our partnership with the City and their willingness to invest in such an important resource for our students and families.
