Natomas Unified Community,

With the cold and flu season upon us and concerns about the coronavirus, as a safety precaution, we wanted to give you the most recent information that we have received from the Sacramento County Public Health Department about the coronavirus and provide you with tips to help you stay healthy this season and prevent the flu.

The County Public Health Department has confirmed the first travel-related case of the virus in a Sacramento County resident. They assure us that there is no local community transmission of the virus and the risk to the public currently remains extremely low.  As they continue to closely monitor the situation, they encourage the public to continue with their daily routines and not change them in any way. We will continue to stay in close contact with the County and update you if anything changes.

Meanwhile, students and school staff should go about their daily lives and practice the same precautions that they normally do during cold and flu season:

Stay home if you have a fever or are feeling sick. Symptoms of the flu can vary, but generally include a high fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, and cough
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when sneezing or coughing
Wash your hands with soap and water often. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
Avoid close contact with sick people

If a student or staff member happens to have traveled to mainland China since February 3, we will follow the recommendation of CDC and require that they not return to school for 14 days from the day after they left China. This will allow time for medical evaluations and to ensure the safety of everyone.

The safety and wellness of our students and staff are a priority, and we thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.
