This morning Natomas High School and Natomas Gateways were placed on lockdown; the lockdown ended after about 10 minutes. All students and staff are safe. A Natomas High student brought a loaded gun onto campus. The student was clear that at no time did he intend to harm others; he talked about harming himself. While details are still coming in, we want the community and staff to know that action by a teacher and principal defused the situation. The student has been taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department. Our district mental health team is on site supporting students and staff. This team includes district psychologists and assistance from other mental health providers. There will be an increased adult and safety presence on the Natomas High and Natomas Gateways campuses indefinitely. Please take the opportunity to sit down and speak with your student about the support systems he/she has available if needed. In addition to your own support network, Natomas Unified has a Social Emotional Support system that includes psychologists, counselors, and other support staff. On the district’s main web page is a shortcut button titled “Social Emotional Support referral;” this provides students and adults access to assistance if he/she or another student needs emotional support. Esta mañana la escuela Natomas High y Natomas Gateways tuvieron encierro de emergencia; el encierro de escuela termino después de unos 10 minutos. Todos los estudiantes y el personal están seguros. Un estudiante de la escuela Natomas High trajo un arma cargada al plantel escolar. El estudiante aclaro que en ningún momento tenía la intención de dañar a otros; el habló de dañarse a sí mismo. Aunque seguimos recibiendo detalles, queremos que la comunidad y el personal estén informados que las acciones de un maestro y el director calmaron la situación. El estudiante ha sido detenido por la Policía de Sacramento. Nuestro equipo de salud mental se encuentra en el plantel de la escuela apoyando a los estudiantes y al personal. Este equipo está formado por psicólogos del distrito y asistencia de otros profesionales de la salud mental. Habrá un aumento de seguridad y adultos presentes en el plantel de Natomas High y Natomas Gateways de forma indefinida. Además de su propia red de apoyo, el Distrito de Natomas tiene un sistema de apoyo social y emocional que incluye psicólogos, consejeros y otro personal de apoyo.
