What is SPAM?
SPAM is classified as irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients.
- Unwanted or intrusive advertising on the Internet.
- Email pointing to an spoofed website link
What should a staff member do with SPAM?
Look carefully at the wording of the email. Even if it is from an person you know, or someone from outside your contacts, usually it will be a short message directing you to click on a link.
How can they tell if its spam?
Usually the email will be short and to the point. Usually it is an alarmist tone. (your account is suspended, email is approaching its limit, etc)
What if they’re not sure if its spam?
By rule of thumb, users should not click on any links they are unsure of. They can forward the email to the IT engineers, or open a work order to have a technician examine the email and determine if it is qualified as spam or spoofing.
